Passed away peacefully at Granger House with family by her side on February 8, 2020, aged 81.
Wife of Colin, loved mum and mother-in-law of Lindsay, Evan, Lloyd & Rose, Alison & Michael, and Mark & Renata,
nanny of Ethan, Adam, Cameron, Felix, and Lukas, loved sister and sister-in-law of the late Ian Thompson, and Gwen & David Clark,
sister-in-law of Terry Grooby, Carolyn Hoy, and the late Shirley England (nee Crowe), Cedric Grooby (aka Eruini), and Ngaire Grooby,

My name is Martin Angus travelled NZ in 1989/90 and on my travels i was very privileged to meet the whole Grooby family. Jean cooked a meal of venison for the whole family with me as a guest. the venison came from the bush as per Collins hunting skills. I am devastated to learn that now other members of the family have passed including Colin and Lindsay. I met Lindsay when he was the manager of the Greymouth youth hostel he was a fantastic man and i am so sad he has passed. As i knew him he was so full of life and always a pleasure to be in his company. He gave me an opportunity whilst he was on holiday ( the family will remember). I got to know Evan he took me on a bush bash into the mountains and we spent the day gold mining in a creek running down the side of a foot hill just outside Greymouth. I have so many lovely memories of my stays in Greymouth. To Evan i have watched your videos over the years (beach mining) and your latest one that you are in i remember you well and still have the shards of opals you gave me. To Alison so pleased you found happiness and sorry you lost your husband. I said to you all that one day you would see me again if you remember i have a sister and her family in Dunedin. I am now retired my self and am thinking of coming to see my sister and my nephews and nieces and i will hire a car and make my way to Greymouth i loved it there it felt like home to me. I guess Mick the jade carver is no longer with us either. I wish You all well and will see you again one day.
