To Rachael, Shani ,Kalum Adin and Kate and your extended family. We are both so sad at your sad loss , it was only a week ago that we ran into both you Rachael and Lasantha at the airport . We just want you all to know that Lasantha was such a fine Doctor and a real Gentleman. But more than that we know how much he loved you all so much . How his kindness to Mandy who spent a lot of time at your house with Shani was appreciated . He was a man of few words but one that we had great respect for. Rest in peace Lasantha

🕊️ In Loving Memory of Dr. Lasantha
I have such loving memories of Lasantha — always smiling, kind, and so welcoming whenever I spent time at the family home. I was always made to feel like family, no questions asked, free to stay, eat, and share in the warmth of their home.
As I went on to become a nurse, I came to learn even more about the remarkable person he was — an incredible, intelligent physician who devoted his life to medicine and to helping those most vulnerable.
Our hearts go out to his family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. May your precious memories bring comfort. Gone far too soon, but never forgotten.
Rest in peace and love, Lasantha 🤍
My deepest condolences to the Martinus family. I hope you feel surrounded by love and support in the days ahead, and your memories bring solace during this difficult time.
I was back in Greymouth at the end of 2024 for a few months, and ran into Lasantha a few times out on his walks. He stopped and talked with me a couple of times and was very chatty and lovely, he talked about his time in retirement and how he enjoyed having time to read a lot of books. I remember sharing meals with the Martinus family when I was in high school and still think about his lentils and rice and how yummy they were, 15 years later.
I will miss seeing him out and about when I’m home – may he rest in peace.
God bless you all at the passing of Losantha. I had the pleasure of working with him and loved it. I am on a pilgrimage to France and Italy so won’t be able to attend his celebration on his life. I will say prayers for you all . God Bless you all. Annette Mead
God bless you Rachael and family at this sad time at the passing of Lasantha. I loved working with him at Grey Hospital. I am in Italy for another 10 day so I won’t be able to go to his funeral. My thoughts and prayers will be with you all God Bless
Hanging out in Shani’s room meant inevitable visits from Lasantha, always bearing some kind of health food: seaweed, mysterious oil shots, or other strange concoctions I’d never seen or heard of. Health was always a passion of his, and he lived by it every day.
He had a way about him—always thoughtful before he spoke, and even in silence carrying a subtle, warm, and genuine smile. The combination of quiet decisiveness, humour, and dedication made him truly unforgettable.
My heart goes out to the family, keeping you all in my thoughts.
Kevin and I send our deepest condolences to you and the family. Even after years of not having worked at Grey Hospital, when crossing paths, it was always lovely to still receive his genuine and gentle smile and acknowledgement. He was a true gentleman and a wonderful doctor. May he rest in peace.
May you rest in peace Dr Martinus
